Production Blog: Materializing My Final Task and Filming New Scenes

 At this point, I've filmed a substantial amount of clips to finally piece together for my final task. Today, I'm starting out edit together some parts of the first scene in my movie. Tomorrow, however, I want to film a LOT by the end of this week, so I can continue to piece together every clip in my editing process. If I'm going to be honest, I've not been satisfied with the limited work I've done. I felt too comfortable not filming too much. But tomorrow is a three day weekend, and I hope I can push myself to use that to my full advantage.

Today, I decided to edit the very first scene of my final project. In the first scene, I referenced my storyboard, and I start off by dumping the first scene on the Davinci Resolve program. I put my first clips: a birds-eye view with the character pouring on coffee. Then it follows up with a framing scene of the girl walking towards the door. Then, she walks to her desk where she seats herself onto the table.

Storyboard For My Staedtler Eraser Commercial

Genre Research: A Quiet Place

  What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have? I liked the use of ambient diegetic sounds in this film. It gives an added level of suspense and anxiety surrounding the character. The character's purpose is to not talk at all, as there's monstrous aliens that hunts people bas on sound. However, the ambient sound also just gives a sense of suspense, since the silence can feel like a detrimental experience to viewers. As the viewer is deprived of speaking, an essential tool for most humans, the viewing experience can feel more anxious. As an audience member my sight of seeing and hearing feels more heightened as I'm relying on the character's expressions and visual & auditory puzzles to fins out what's happening in the scene. Research: Commercial Conventions Of Staedtler

For my commercial, I’m doing an eraser commercial for the brand ‘Staedtler.’ Staedtler is a popular art & stationery brand. The audience tends to see drawings and characters engaging in art-related activities. These are the following commercial conventions: Props include paper, pencils, and erasers displayed clearly in the frame.  They tend to have drawings done by the actors made with a particular product, such as color pencil, shading pencils, fine liners, etc. They are typically close up shots of the characters’ hands and their drawings, along with the particular product they’re advertising. Tends to have establishing shots of the setting and characters. There are mid-shots of the characters. A common camera angle is a high angle. These angles showcase the paper and the medium or product being used. Staedtler commercials tend to use high-key lighting, in order to display the product and its logo in a clear manner.
