Production Blog: Materializing My Final Task and Filming New Scenes

 At this point, I've filmed a substantial amount of clips to finally piece together for my final task. Today, I'm starting out edit together some parts of the first scene in my movie. Tomorrow, however, I want to film a LOT by the end of this week, so I can continue to piece together every clip in my editing process. If I'm going to be honest, I've not been satisfied with the limited work I've done. I felt too comfortable not filming too much. But tomorrow is a three day weekend, and I hope I can push myself to use that to my full advantage.

Today, I decided to edit the very first scene of my final project. In the first scene, I referenced my storyboard, and I start off by dumping the first scene on the Davinci Resolve program. I put my first clips: a birds-eye view with the character pouring on coffee. Then it follows up with a framing scene of the girl walking towards the door. Then, she walks to her desk where she seats herself onto the table.

Commercial: Staedtler Eraser

     This is the final product of my commercial. I think I mainly surprised myself in terms of editing and filming, because I thought my editing skills wouldn't execute what I initially envisioned. Some things that I would do differently is that I would like to include a bit more camera movements. Something like pans to show the full drawing. Or tilts that reveals the subject, the Staedtler eraser, to create an effective way in highlighting its importance in the commercial. Additionally, I would want to improve the sound design of the video. Particularly in the music of the commercial, I felt that the way the music was implemented didn't have much of an impactful effect as I had envisioned in my head. Another thing that I would change about this commercial is the lighting. I initially wanted to put natural lighting in the commercial, maybe even in golden hour lighting, to create a more warm tone to the commercial. Filming Blog: Challenges Ahead

Since this is my first time filming anything, I started out feeling pretty intimidated & thoroughly challenged. But as things started to progress, I felt myself getting the hang of everything in my filming process.  I started to prepare all of my props: the Staedtler eraser, a pencil, and a piece of paper. I get ready with my camera and tripod. Initially, I planned to film by my living room window in order to get some natural lighting in my shots; however, it was starting to get cloudy and dark in this day, so I had to film inside with my desk and use artificial lighting. I started out filming the third scene (the GIF below) since it was the easiest shot to film. And then I did the first scene: I encountered that I couldn't do a bird's eye view shot similar to the composition I planned initially in my storyboard, since my tripod wasn't suitable to do that kind of angle.
