My Music Video: Aerial East - Crazy Now
This is my final music video. Overall, I think my work hasn't executed well, I believe I could've done better in terms of lighting and storyboarding. Previously, in my commercial video, I was able to control the lighting, as the light source was artificial. This time, for this music video, there were times of lighting inconsistency due to natural lighting. I think moving forward, if I want my videos to be visually pleasing, I think I need to take advantage of days where the sunlight is bright and out, as in this project I did film on days were it was cloudy or even on the brink of raining. Also, it's obvious in the music video, that some of the lighting is inconsistent throughout the video, the exposure was either too bright or to dark. For example, in the scene where I opened my mailbox and ripped the letter, the exposure of the footage of me ripping the letter was obviously overexposed compared to the footage of me retrieving the love letter. The inconsistency of lighting could lead viewers to think it may not be the same occurring scene. Also, it can look visually unappealing. Moving forward, before filming any project, I'll take account into the exposure settings of my camera and the lighting that day when filming.
In terms of storyboarding, I feel that the scenes occurring could lead to confusion for the viewers. My intention for this music video is to show the character be calm and content with themselves; then the scene that would follow up with contradiction of anger and sadness. For example, this could be demonstrated in the mascara scene, where I put on mascara with no issues, showing that I'm calm and composed. And then a scene follows up with me crying and my mascara smeared. I feel like the problem with doing a positive scene, and then a negative one could lead to confusion for the audience: it leads viewers to wonder, "is this occurring the same day?", " Is it occurring at different times..?" etc. If I were to do this again, I would done a different approach: I would have a built up of sadness and anger. And time would happen in a linear approach. Maybe I would've had my character happy for the first half of the video, then eventually gets sad and angry throughout the video. To conclude, for further projects, I would be mindful of how my storyboard will be realistically seen upon execution.
