Production Blog: Filming, Titles, and Sounds

Today, I've added some of my titles for the film, produced some audio for post-production, and filmed a number of scenes. 

For my titles, I first start out by finding videos on Youtube to find tutorial on how to insert text onto DaVinci Resolve.

My Music Video: Aerial East - Crazy Now

This is my final music video. Overall, I think my work hasn't executed well, I believe I could've done better in terms of lighting and storyboarding. Previously, in my commercial video, I was able to control the lighting, as the light source was artificial. This time, for this music video, there were times of lighting inconsistency due to natural lighting. I think moving forward, if I want my videos to be visually pleasing, I think I need to take advantage of days where the sunlight is bright and out, as in this project I did film on days were it was cloudy or even on the brink of raining. Also, i t's obvious in the music video, that some of the lighting is inconsistent throughout the video, the exposure was either too bright or to dark.  For example, in the scene where I opened my mailbox and ripped the letter, the exposure of the footage of me ripping the letter was obviously overexposed compared to the footage of me retrieving  the love letter. Genre Research: A Quiet Place

  What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have? I liked the use of ambient diegetic sounds in this film. It gives an added level of suspense and anxiety surrounding the character. The character's purpose is to not talk at all, as there's monstrous aliens that hunts people bas on sound. However, the ambient sound also just gives a sense of suspense, since the silence can feel like a detrimental experience to viewers. As the viewer is deprived of speaking, an essential tool for most humans, the viewing experience can feel more anxious. As an audience member my sight of seeing and hearing feels more heightened as I'm relying on the character's expressions and visual & auditory puzzles to fins out what's happening in the scene. I would like to replicate this kind of viewing experience to the audience, as they'll be more attentive to visual details.  What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like? I liked ...

Genre Research: Deciding To Do the Horror Genre

I decided to pick the horror genre to execute my pitch:  A girl in quarantine working on a last minute assignment suddenly drifts to sleep and experiences a nightmare.  Based on the research for multiple genres, I ultimately wanted to do the horror genre as it fits my creative vision for this opening sequence. Many elements of horror, the anxiety and ominous tones, is something I would like to recreate in my film. From my research, I don't think I can really capture the essence of a thriller or a comedy given my lack of vision to execute their elements into the opening sequence of my film.  For the opening sequence of my film, I wanted to capture the anxiety of doing a last minute assignment, and create metaphors in which the character is presented when dreaming. For example, I imagine a scene in where the character is in the middle of the nightmare, and gets attacked or even killed by a person, who can represent dwindling time.
