Editing Blog: Compiling All the Scenes
When editing, I used iMovie to edit all the shots I did during filming.
First, I needed to import all the takes that I did from my SD card to my computer. Then, I renamed each of the clips in numerical order (1,2,3...), according to sequential order. This keeps everything organized when editing so I know what scenes will happen sequentially. Once every take was downloaded completely, I dumped all of my footage onto iMovie. I put all the clips in order, cross referencing from the storyboard that I made. I then deleted and cut the clips necessary for my commercial, these were now my final shots. I found myself having to constantly cutting each of clips in order to keep the video under the 30 second time limit. For scene 2, I wasn't able to include other footage that showed the beginning stages of sketching the face, only the final stages in sketching the face. In this scene, I also put a time lapse to the clip in order to maximize other time for other scenes. I inserted all the scenes together; I clipped and sped up the time for each clip as necessary. I added transitions in between each clip so the audience has a smooth viewing of my commercial. Finally, I added music to the commercial once I reached the 30 second time limit. The music I added was Vivaldi- 'Allegro con Molto' from "Winter" the "Four Seasons." I had to listen to the song again to get the certain time stamps that I will put in the commercial. I made few minor adjustment to the plan of the audio in my storyboard. In the first scene, I planned that the music will play immediately; however, I included diegetic sounds of ambient sounds in the first scene where I placed the eraser and pencil down at my desk. Also, I planned that there will be complete silence upon the third scene with the spotlight casting down to the eraser; when editing, I found that I liked it with the music, and I found the scene was equally impactful with or without music.
My whole editing process just consisted of minor trouble shooting in terms of time duration and the timing of the music. Overall, I think it was a great learning experience, and I'm pretty proud how my novice editing skills executed in this project.
