Commercial: Staedtler Eraser
This is the final product of my commercial. I think I mainly surprised myself in terms of editing and filming, because I thought my editing skills wouldn't execute what I initially envisioned. Some things that I would do differently is that I would like to include a bit more camera movements. Something like pans to show the full drawing. Or tilts that reveals the subject, the Staedtler eraser, to create an effective way in highlighting its importance in the commercial. Additionally, I would want to improve the sound design of the video. Particularly in the music of the commercial, I felt that the way the music was implemented didn't have much of an impactful effect as I had envisioned in my head. Another thing that I would change about this commercial is the lighting. I initially wanted to put natural lighting in the commercial, maybe even in golden hour lighting, to create a more warm tone to the commercial. I would also put more dynamic camera angles to this project, just to create more interest in terms of aesthetics. The camera was stationery for majority of the commercial, so to me, it felt slightly stiff when viewing it.
I learned a lot throughout the making of this project. In general, I was starting to get more comfortable in editing. So it's just basic technicalities of editing that I had learned: how to implement music in a video, how to put transitions in between, how to clip takes, and how to sped up time in each shot. In terms of the filming process, I think I developed my skills in that area as well. I mainly learned how to work the camera and use its features to my advantage. Such as focus pulls, I learned how to focus on an object with the camera lens in my filming process. I was able to learn how to do zoom or zoom out with the camera as well.
Overall, with this project, I think I'm slowly starting to develop my skills in terms of filming and editing.
